Oak Hill MA is one of the thirteen villages that make up the 11th largest city in Massachusetts, Newton. Being one of the last villages to be established, Oak Hill is unique; it also is the only village that does not have a major shopping center or post office. It’s located in the south east part of Newton, on the Brookline/Boston line close to the VFW highway or otherwise known as Rt. 1.
The village of Oak Hill was developed for service men and woman returning from WWII. If I remember correctly, the city of Newton helped the soldiers finance these homes. Newton is a great city, is was then, and is today.
A lot of these homes were very simple, slab ranch style homes. The word “slab” means that there is not basement and that the structure is built on a concrete platform or slab. There are not that many multifamily homes here, but a few.
Mt. Ida Junior College is located in this area of Newton, just off from Dedham Street.
