The village of Newton Upper Falls is a great place to find an apartment. It’s on the National Historic Register and much of the area is zoned historic. If you plan to purchase a home or multifamily home (with an apartment in it) in Newton Upper Falls, remember this because there are many restrictions, rules and permits that have to be OK’d by the historic committee before any changes to the house. This is including and not limited to the color of exterior paint you plan to use.
Newton Upper Falls is located on part of the Charles River and for many years in the 1800’s the Charles was a major power source for factories located here.
Hemlock Gorge and Echo Bridge are now conservation sites. There are walking trails and if I remember correctly, Echo Bridge is being restored.
